Chronic pain syndrome is difficult and frustrating to manage, and patients experiencing it are often viewed as being undesirable. Chronic pain patients typically show traditional clinical symptoms with psychosocial, vocational, and behavioral problems. The evaluation must consist of an independent history and physical examination with emphasis on the pain experience, past evaluations, and past treatments. And psychosocial, vocational, and behavioral evaluations are also necessary to see the global problems of chronic pain syndrome. The treatment of chronic pain syndrome should emphasize modification of medication, pain modulation, physical activity, and treatment of psychological and vocational issues. However, it is sometimes due to incorrect diagnosis and improper management in their acute pain periods so some patients can be cured by considerable and thorough evaluation and treatment. Once we evaluate and manage overall related problems of chronic pain patient appropriately, they can achieve reasonable success in improving their quality of life. Pain management center using a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach with specialized sub-special knowledges and experiences to treating chronic pain syndrome is most valuable for evaluation and treatment of these problems.
